When Homobigots And Anti-Sex Wingnuts
Are In Charge |

Glenden Brown |
|
In September of 2007, the
principal at Hollis F.
Price Middle College High
told teachers she wanted
the names of all student
couples, “hetero and
homo,” because she wanted
to monitor them personally
to prevent students from
engaging in public
displays of affection. |

How I Convinced Myself That I Was
Changing My Sexual Orientation |
|
David Gonzalez, a former patient of Joe Nicolosi |
|
Oftentimes when I meet
someone who’s been through
ex-gay therapy I ask them
if they ever reached the
point where they believed
they were beginning to
change — It’s how I gauge
just how deeply they got
into the whole “ex-gay
thing.” |

Radical Religious Right: As If It Were
Only About Marriage |
|
Daniel DiRito |
|
The religious right likes
to portray itself as the
bastion of values. All too
often, their actions
display a
willingness to suspend
values in order to further
their faith based
fundamentalism. Their
ongoing efforts to pin
virtual scarlet letters on
gays is evidence of their
misguided mindset. |

Survey Shows Gays 'Ignorant' Of Basic
Rights Issues |
|
Joshua Lysen |
Few gay Americans
understand their basic
rights, according to an
analysis released this
week.
Based on the responses of
768 gays, lesbians and
bisexuals to a national
poll,
the analysis found that
most respondents could not
correctly answer four
questions regarding their
state and federal rights. |

An Alternate Take On 'Pansy' |
|
Washington Blade |
|
Words really are power,
and words let people know
what's okay and what's
not. For those in a public
forum, Easley and Sen.
Hillary Clinton should be
more aware of what layers
of meaning lie beneath
their word choices, and
when they misstep (as we
all do), they should have
the good grace to speak up
and create change with
some new vocabulary. |

Right Wing Attacks 'Dear Abby' For
Supporting Gay Marriage |

In 2007, “Dear Abby”
author Jeanne Phillips
publicly - and
controversially - spoke
out in support of gay
marriage. Since that time,
she has become a target of

The Tenth Muse: What's In a Name? |

Residents of Lesbo are
suing a gay rights group for
using the word lesbian in
its name
because they fear the term
"Insults the identity of
the people of Lesbos' who
are also called Lesbian."
Yes, it must be
embarrassing for countless
island women to have to
explain, "Yes, I am a
Lesbian, but I'm not
that way." And the
island men! One can almost
hear them joking, "I'm a
Lesbian in a man's body." |

The Ridiculous Notion Of Gay Privilege |
|
Sara Whitman |
|
Watching Tim Wise speak
about white privilege has
me wondering... how do we
do the same thing in the
LGBT community? How do we
push hard against someone
else, make someone
smaller, less than in
order to feel our
privilege? |

A Possible Solution To The ENDA
Equation |
|
Allison Bricker |
|
While I believe in the
principle that one's
employment should be
solely based on their
ability to fulfill the job
requirements of their
potential or current
position, I disagree on
the method embraced by the
ENDA of attaining this
parity amongst
individuals. |

Ex-Gay Therapy: "Like Throwing

Daniel Gonzales |

A new paper by NARTH
president A. Dean Byrd,
past president Joseph
Nicolosi, and Richard
Potts was supposed to show
what therapeutic
techniques former clients
of ex-gay therapy found
effective. But what the
paper really showed was
how effectively those
former patients absorbed
and accepted the ex-gay
movement’s distortions of
human sexuality. |

My
Father's Eyes |
|
Terrance Heath |
|
It's easy to say "things
like that don't happen any
more." But we all know
better. I was raised on
it, and even when my
father reminded me that I
- as a black male — would
not be treated the same as
a white male my age, I
knew enough not to even
try to say he was wrong.
He wasn't wrong then, and
he isn't wrong now. And if
the day comes when I must
have the same conversation
with one of my sons that
my father had with me that
day, will I be wrong? |

Barbie Turns 50 And Suicidal |
|
|
(New
York, NY) Barbie will turn 50 in 2009. To mark the event a suicidal,
middle-aged version of the famous doll has been released.Advance
promotion for the design, called Suicide Barbie, was released to
TheSpoof.com. |
|
|
|
The famous doll is now flabby and overweight. The thick head of blonde hair
is now obviously dyed and much shorter. Jowly cheeks and watery eyes have
replaced the vibrant youthful look. Suicidal Barbie's wardrobe is faded
sweats, dirty sneakers and smeared make-up. She is obviously severely
alcoholic and suicidally depressed. |
|
|
|
The most pathetic thing about Suicide Barbie is the things she says. "I hate
myself. I wish I was dead. Life sucks. Life has no meaning." are some of the
phrases she speaks. Some Suicide Barbie dolls even say "Will you please kill
me." |
|
|
There
are many extras included with the Suicide Barbie. There is a gas stove with
a small supply of natural gas so Barbie can suffocate herself. There are
colored pills so she can overdose and also a toy gun. The makers also
include a copy of the book Final Exit in the kit.A representative Lillith
D'ville was optimistic about the sales potential. "We live in dark times."
said Ms. D'ville. "The marketplace is ready for a Suicide Barbie. In two
years we will have Graveyard Barbie if this goes as we hope. Our marketing
department is already researching doll death and doll graveyards." |
