Gay Obama Administration Official Says He Can't Give a Lesbian Wife Health Benefits

Is an administration that's branded itself as change really forcing a gay man to deny a lesbian couple equal benefits? Yep.

I'm certainly not one of those doe-eyed Obama voters who really thought he was going to come in and change everything, but every now and then some bit of news comes out of the U.S. government that really does leave me dumbfounded. The following is one of them.

The Trans Community... Swimming in PTSD?

I started this diary about 15 years ago. I'd read an essay, "Swimming in AIDS" that'd been penned a couple decades ago in the middle of the AIDS epidemic. It was a moving commentary on those days before we had drugs that were effective against AIDS. Back then in the gay community so many gay brothers were sick and dying of AIDS that you were caught up in the tragedy, literally swimming in AIDS, even if you were HIV negative.

World AIDS Day 2009: Addressing the U.S. Epidemic

At every stage in its life cycle coal can negatively impact human health, from mining operations, cleaning, transportation to burning and disposing of the combustion waste. PSR reports that many Americans are being affected daily by coal and the exposure is contributing to horrible health problems; heart attacks, lung cancer, strokes, asthma among others.

As the festival of mandatory gratitude looms into view, allow me to offer a few suggestions on what, exactly, you should be thankful for.

Be thankful that, on at least one occasion, your mother did not fend off your father with a pair of nunchucks, but instead allowed enough contact to facilitate your happy conception. Be thankful that when you go to buy a pale, poultrylike entity, the grocery clerk will accept your credit card in good faith and even return it with a heroic garble of your last name.
